When it comes to dieting, the military diet is the top search these days. Although you might be shocked to hear it, this diet has been around for quite some time already. Currently, it’s causing such a hype because it allows for a quick weight loss. The 3-day plan can easily be found on the internet as well since there’s no login or subscription involved. Yes, the whole plan is free!
The Military Diet In A Nutshell
Also dubbed as the 3-day diet, the military diet is a weight-loss method popular for aiding people in losing up to 10 pounds every week. It involves a 3-day meal plan, which is then followed by a 4-day break from the program. The cycle is repeated every week until one’s goal weight has been reached.
Advocates of the diet believe that it was created by nutritionists in the US military to get cadets into prime shape fast. But in reality, the military diet isn’t related to any army or governmental establishment.
How Does It Work?
The 3-day military diet is divided into two phases covering seven days. For the initial three days, one must follow a specific low-calorie meal plan intended for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—with no snacks in between.
The total calorie consumption throughout the first phase is about 1,100–1,400 calories daily, which is below the average intake of an adult. As for the four days left in the week, it is encouraged to consume healthy foods and maintain a low-calorie intake, but you can basically eat anything you want.
Is It Backed By Research?
Though the plan is safe and effective, there is still no study to back its claims. There is no information or research about how many people lost weight, or if anyone got a positive outcome while following the plan either. The website that introduced the plan claims that the diet doesn’t slow down the process of metabolism, but again, there is no evidence or study to back them up.
Is the Military Diet Safe and Sustainable?
The military diet is likely harmless for the average person since it’s too brief to do long-lasting harm. Nevertheless, if you follow this diet for months on end, the severe limitations on caloric-intake could lead to nutrient deficiencies. This possibility is particularly true if you don’t typically consume vegetables and other quality foods during your 4-day off. Additionally, junk food shouldn’t be a normal part of your diet.
As for sustainability, the military diet is quite easy to do, for it doesn’t depend on long-term habit changes and just requires willpower for a shorter period. With all that’s been said, it perhaps won’t help you keep the excess weight off for very long because it doesn’t aid in changing your habits.
If you still want to undertake this diet plan after all that you’ve read, you can check out the Military Diet Food List on the 3 Day Military Diet website. http://www.3daymilitarydiet.net/food-list/
