Suffering From Flight Anxiety? Here’s How You Can Relax in a Flight!
Does flying cause you to break out in a cold sweat? Well, you are not the only one. At least more than 25 million Americans suffer from some flight anxiety. There is a term to describe the fear of flight called aerophobia (fear of flying). It is the second biggest fear in the US right after public speaking.
If you fall in this category, you may have friends and family who would tell you that flying is one of the safest modes of transportation, and your chances of dying from a flight indeed are one in 10 million. However, that fact alone cannot help you beat the jitters. There may be people advising you to come early to the airport to get rid of unnecessary stress, but it may not work for most people. You can try some hacks that can help beat the flight stress to a great extent.
Sleep it Off
If you find it difficult to settle down in a flight, you can get yourself a comfortable neck pillow, earplugs, and an eye mask that can temporarily beat the surrounding noise and atmosphere. This way, you can get into deep slumber without letting the flight heebie-jeebies bother you.
Listen to Music
A playlist for your flights can be a pretty cool thing to do. Before you leave for your holiday, you can listen to a soothing playlist of relaxing music or keep your ears open to some summer tunes. You can even get a Spotify Playlist to customize to your specific needs. And music, more often than not, has a calming effect. When nothing else works, music certainly helps.
Watch a Show or Film
If you cannot carry your movies with you and travel on long flights, there will be TVs on the plane that may have all the latest movies. Alternatively, you can also watch your favorite TV series if you download it before you take the flight. Your favorite comedy series can work every time you feel scared or afraid of the flight ahead. Well, soon, you may be left chortling away to glory on the funniest things. Beware of the strange glances people may throw at you when you laugh through your flight.
Set Yourself Some Pamper Sessions
This may sound strange to you. How can one settle for pampering sessions on a flight? You cannot just put cucumber slices on your eyes, right. Also, asking for cucumbers can turn out to be a slightly odd request to make to a flight attendant. But there are other ways of relaxing. You can take off your make-up and let your skin breathe. You can even put on a nice face mask and put it on your skin and feel instantly better!
Your flight time can be your perfect me-time where you don’t have to worry about work calls or think about answering emails. So, you can devote this time to truly being with yourself. You don’t know the next time you can be with yourself, completely be with yourself.
Read a Good Book
Flights may be the best time to read. If you have meant to read a book for ages but didn’t have the time, then carry that book and finish that book on that one flight. If it is a crime thriller, you get so involved with the characters and the story that you forget about your flight and just get swayed by the book.
Play Games
Several games can put your mind off several things and concentrate on just the game. Games like Travel Scrabble and Monopoly are just the games you need to beat the flight stress. If these games do not work for you, opt for travel versions of many popular board games. You can even keep it simple and play MASH or Noughts & Crosses or a deck of cards for Solitaire, and you do not need anything else when it comes to games. Simple works the best.
There you go, no, you no longer have to be a nervous nelly when you are off to catch your flight next. These strategies will help you relax and rejuvenate and even help you to strike up a conversation with a fellow traveler and forget about the flight.
