Five Natural Teas That Will Help You Relax In No Time!

Stress is sometimes unavoidable, much as we do our best to steer clear of it. Problems are bound to spring up throughout the day at some point or the other, and by the end of the day, we’re all looking for some way to relax and unwind. By relax, we don’t mean just putting up our feet! We need to unwind physically, mentally, and emotionally. Of course, we can’t rely on unhealthy substances to achieve this, so it’s always good to have a few ways to find relaxation from natural and healthy alternatives. Here, we take a look at some of the most relaxing teas that can help you be at ease!
Peppermint Tea
Aromatic peppermint tea simply smells so divine that you become relaxed simply by sniffing it! The tea works well to reduce stress and relieve feelings of anxiety. Peppermint is a source of menthol which acts as a natural muscle relaxant. People tend to become irritable and feel tense when they are stressed or anxious which can be eased by sipping on a cup of peppermint tea. It induces an overall calm, and it’s perfect for any time of the day since it is caffeine-free. Drinking a cup before bed can help you sleep better after a long day. One note of caution is that pregnant women should avoid drinking this tea as it increases chances of miscarriage.
Chamomile Tea
Good ‘ole reliable chamomile is the relaxing tea your grandma probably advised you to sip on! This is an excellent tea for people whose anxiety caused them to have sleepless nights. Chamomile tea is rich in compounds that aid insomnia, leading to a deeply restful, high-quality sleep. Chamomile tea relaxes the muscles as well and reduces irritability. This tea can be prepared either from dried chamomile flowers or from fresh ones. Simply add the flowers to hot water and allow it to steep for about 5 minutes before sipping.
Lemon Balm Tea
Since lemon balm is a member of the mint family, it can be expected that the plant offers similar benefits to its cousins. This calming herb boasts a mild minty flavor with a fresh lemon taste, though very slight. Sipping on lemon balm tea is said to reduce cortisol – the stress hormone that wreaks havoc on your body when you’re stressed out! The tea is good for relieving stress and inducing relaxation without causing drowsiness. This is then a good choice for sipping throughout the day. An added bonus is that it actually elevates the mood!
Green Tea
Green tea is high in polyphenol which is a good fighter against stress and anxiety. Green tea is also high in caffeine, but it happens to be adaptogenic which means that green tea is great for helping you relax while ensuring that you stay alert. This may be a good tea to drink if you need to concentrate but at the same time need to be calmed down. Think of your exam period or when you have to meet deadlines!
Rose Tea
We all know that roses smell heavenly. Could you imagine anything more relaxing than sipping on a cup of roses? Well, rose tea makes that possible. This is a tea best enjoyed with fresh rose petals which have been steeped in water to your desired taste. The dried varieties may only offer a faint rose smell and taste and is often mixed with other tea leaves. Rose tea is a delight to the nose and your body! This tea boasts many benefits, but for relaxation, it works by easing the mind and makes for an excellent nightcap as it aids you to enjoy a good sleep.
So, give all your anti-anxiety meds the boot! It’s tough enough to have to deal with stress and anxiety alone without having to deal with the side effects of medication. If you have the space and the interest in doing so, it is best to plant a selection of herbs and plants in your garden, from which you can harvest flowers and leaves as you please for a fresh cup of relaxing tea at any time of the day. Harvest large quantities for drying to have a supply all year round. Plus, you’ll know they’re organic!
