Wondering How to Lose Weight in Your 40’s? Here’s a 3-minute Read on How To Do Just That
Once you hit your 40’s and become more self-aware, years worth of wisdom and confidence follow suit. However, the thought of all the new physical changes that you might be experiencing these days can be quite unpleasant. As your metabolism declines, weight loss becomes more difficult.
However tricky it must seem for you to lose weight right now at your 40’s, it is not impossible. Losing weight at any age to stay healthy and enhance mental well-being is easy as long as you strategize. Here is a list of 5 tactics that you can easily use to shed off some pounds:
Don’t remove carbs altogether
Carbohydrates serve as fuel for the body, and many food sources have them. Fresh fruits, whole grains, and potatoes are laden with many minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that can help boost your body into optimal health. Carb deprivation can have a negative impact on your wellness and can even cause constipation and fatigue. Because the body requires fewer carbohydrates after the age of 40, though, you can’t just eat a heavy diet if you don’t want to gain weight. The solution? Eat the best quality foods that carry fewer carbs.
Include more vegetables in your diet
While hitting your 40’s isn’t the end of the world, you have to be more careful about what you’re eating. Start consuming vegetables and build the rest of your meals around them. These veggies will not only provide you with a sense of fullness but will regulate your insulin levels and blood sugar as well. They can also help you cope with the physical changes that you’re experiencing.
Be extra careful of alcoholic beverages
For many people, losing weight becomes a much more complicated process because they are not cutting out alcohol from their lives. Though alcohol sounds like something that could help you lose weight, one study has concluded that people who tend to binge drink or do it regularly are more overweight than those who don’t drink. It is because the food that is being eaten with the alcohol doesn’t get burned, which in turn leads to weight gain.
No to diet foods (or even dieting)
Depriving yourself and going the on/go off approach can ultimately backfire. Instead, foster a mentality of balance by not under or overeating. Focus on nutrition and not on restriction. We know this might seem boring, and it isn’t a quick fix either. However, it would make you feel the best, both physically and emotionally. Trust us when we say that this is the most sustainable approach for someone your age.
Dark chocolate is your best friend
One research discovered that having an ounce and a half of dark chocolate every day for two weeks decreased levels of stress hormones in volunteers who ranked themselves as highly stressed. Five squares of 70% dark chocolate carry below 250 calories but supply fiber, antioxidants, and magnesium. It can help you relax, improve your sleep, and enhance your mood!
