Here’s How You Can Protect Your Skin From The Summer Sun
A visit to the doctor can often prove to be highly unfruitful. You realize that there was no reason to worry at all, and you could have skipped the whole trip to the doctor’s office and the exorbitant fees, thanks to the deductibles from the insurance company. Now that it’s summertime, we spend much of our day outside, getting a tan and enjoying the warm weather. But if we’re not too careful, especially concerning our skin health, then we’d end up with various health issues that would mean frequent visits to the doctor. So here are a few tips that can help you protect yourself from the sun:
Take All Kinds Of Protection Possible
Whether you bask under the lovely Californian weather or the scorching Texan heat, you will need to protect yourself from the heat in every way you can. For a start, avoid going out in the sun during the afternoon when the temperatures are highest. If you do have to, wear a hat or use an umbrella, and wear sunglasses which is more for your eye protection rather than a fashion statement. The skin around our eyes is highly sensitive and to protect them, we need to hear oversized sunglasses. Wearing loose clothes made of breathable material will help your body to cool down. Air-conditioning will definitely help you stay cool, but if you immediately go out of the house after staying inside a cold room, then you might catch a cold faster. So, be careful!
Never Forget to Apply Sunscreen
UV rays can be dangerous for our skin. It is one of the main causes of skin cancer, so even if you’ve armed yourself with an umbrella and donned a pair of sunglasses, these aren’t enough preventive measures — you need to put on sunscreen lotion! And not just any sunscreen because the SPF that you see on the label of your container matters. Depending on how long you are planning to stay out, the SPF should be higher. Having a tan might look good on you, but you should know the dangers of sun exposure before tanning. However, UV rays also promote vitamin D production and improve your mood. Just make sure to apply sunscreen with the highest possible SPF before heading out.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Our body is made up of almost 65% of water. Going out in the sun can make us severely dehydrated, and paired with exhaustion, this can lead to sunstroke. Having 8 to 12 glasses of water every day becomes imperative, especially during summer. Keep physical activities limited to early mornings and stop immediately if you feel too fatigued.
These points are important for each one of us but more so for children and seniors as they are more prone to sun-related health issues than others. Enjoying summers to the fullest and having outdoor activities are normal. Just make sure you are following all the dos and don’ts like drinking lots of water, putting on sunscreen, and being under the shade. Happy Summer!
