How To Prepare For Your Health Insurance Physical Examination

Before issuing health coverage, physical examinations are mandatory to assess an individual’s eligibility for who wants to buy a policy. People usually want to avoid these physical examinations and fall for those health policies that don’t require them to undergo such tests. If you think that you can sign up for a health insurance policy without undergoing a medical test, you are heavily mistaken.
Insurance companies that ask you to go through a physical examination are customer-friendly, and in all likeliness, you will be able to reap the benefits. If you are in the pink of health, you will get lower rates on your policy. There are several ways through which you can prepare for a health insurance physical examination. Check out the tips.
Eat Healthy Foods Weeks Before Your Physical Examination Date
A healthy diet will always have a positive impact on your blood test results. Refrain from having fast foods, processed foods, and sugar in the weeks before your medical tests. Aim to add veggies, fruits, whole grains, lean meats, low-fat dairy to your platter. This will lead to better cholesterol levels, heart rate, and of course, blood pressure.
Avocados are a great choice before your exam. Avocados have a high amount of MUFA or monounsaturated fatty acids, which are good for your heart. This increases the levels of HDL. HDL is good cholesterol and boosts your overall health. Excess salt is also bad for you. Cut down your salt intake to prevent weight gain and a spike in your blood pressure.
Drinking Lots of Water is a Must
Water washes out the toxins present in your body and keeps you healthy. When you are thirsty, refrain from having sugary and caffeinated beverages such as energy drinks and soda. All these are unhealthy for you. Instead, drink water. Whether you are at work or in the gym, always replenish your body with water. You can have moderate amounts of juice, coffee, or tea. But water is what you must thrive on. You must not have caffeine on the morning of your exam.
Stop Smoking
If you are a smoker, refrain from smoking at least three months before your physical examination if you want to be considered a non-smoker. The systems can detect the presence of tobacco through urine tests. Therefore, stay away from smoking or chewing tobacco months before your medical test.
If you have difficulty quitting smoking, you can find help online or ask your friends and family to help you. Never lie if you have had habits of smoking or chewing tobacco during the examination. You might think you can lie about your habit of using tobacco, but it will count as medical malpractice, and you might lose your insurance cover.
Avoid Alcohol
Try to avoid alcohol weeks before your examination. If you can’t avoid alcohol at all, limit your alcohol consumption. Men can have two drinks a day, while women can consume not more than one drink. This is a moderate amount and is generally safe. Drinking too much alcohol has negative effects on the liver.
Your physical examination will include an LFT or a Liver Function Test. If your blood tests show no signs of alcohol, it will work to your advantage. Excess alcohol consumption days before your tests can harm your chances of getting a health policy. Since heavy drinkers face many health problems, they get higher rates from insurance companies than those who don’t drink or drink moderately.
Always Opt for a Morning Exam
Your body is stressed the least in the morning. Choose a date when you can attend your physical examination early in the morning. Even if it’s a weekend, opting for a morning exam is always better. You can go through the tests on an empty stomach. This is an advantage because you have to eat something or the other if there is an afternoon physical.
Also, sleep for eight hours before the test day, don’t have caffeine on the morning of your examination, and don’t eat until you are done with your medical test.
Keep in mind that insurers gather your health-related information in a variety of ways. They might use a third-party data checking company or the MIB database to know more about you. So do not drag your feet and get your full body check-up today!
