The Reason You’re In A Bad Mood Might Have A Lot To Do With Your Physical Health!
We all have days when whatever we do doesn’t alleviate our mood which stubbornly stays in the doldrums for hours. But if you are constantly in a bad mood and can’t seem to get out of it, there might be something wrong with you. Most of us think it might be coming from excessive stress or depression. It is not untrue, but the truth is there are certain physical conditions which often contribute to our mood disorders. Do you know about them? Find out if you have any of these conditions, and you will know why you have been in bad moods for days now.
Vitamin D Deficiency
This is probably one of the main causes of depression that we fail to realize. Vitamin D synthesis happens in the presence of sunlight, so it’s absolutely essential to go out under the sun at least once a day. In case you have been feeling under the weather, try going for a walk on a sunny day and see if it uplifts your mood. But there are times even that isn’t enough, and many people need to get a blood test done to determine if they need a supplement. Your doctor will be able to help you with all that. If you are going for a full body check-up, don’t forget to mention about your mood disorders, and he can guide you accordingly.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
We all know that women do get terrible mood swings as a part of their monthly menstrual cycle, thanks to the imbalance in their hormone levels. However, many women suffer from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder which, as the name suggests, is a medical condition where the patient feels extremely agitated and irritable. So if you have been facing acute mood swings each time before your monthly periods, you should discuss it with your gynecologist.
The thyroid can also be the culprit responsible for your bad moods. Often, it has been found that hyperthyroidism has been the reason for fluctuating moods in many people. Since hormones play an important in our moods, and the thyroid is a critical one as it can make you feel restless and difficult to concentrate. No wonder, if you have an overactive thyroid gland, it can keep on the edge for days without you being suspicious about your general health.
Lack Of Exercise
If you thought cheating on your health will only give you extra pounds, you are so wrong. It can affect you in more ways than one. Lack of exercise can also lead to a bad case of mood swings. In case you didn’t know already, exercise helps release the happiness hormone – endorphins. No wonder you get that amazing glow on your face after your strenuous workout routine. So, it seems exercise can help you have a sound mind and body.
Many people suffer from chronic pain which affects their mood as well as their lifestyle. Past injuries, nerve damage, migraines, arthritis, and fibromyalgia are some of the reasons people suffer from chronic pain. Months of hurting, soreness, and stiffness can give birth to other conditions like insomnia, weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and finally, bad mood. The change in mental condition might also be responsible for the person’s loneliness and can result in him being a social recluse as well.
The imbalance in sugar levels can often lead to bad moods. The reason behind this could be the mismatch in our serotonin levels that are clearly responsible for our emotions. Sometimes, people also face mental breakdown due to discrepancies in the sugar level.
Allergies from the environment can lead to mood disorder, loss of sleep and appetite, and what not! Sometimes, the reason behind our bad mental health can be our allergies. For example, people suffering from celiac disease are allergic to gluten, but a gluten-free diet can lead to bad mental health. They also affect your immunity, thereby making you suffer more.
Hence, the next time you feel blue, instead of blaming someone or some situation, think of your own health and lifestyle. Do you need to make any change there? Will seeing a doctor help? Ask these questions and make sure you are in great shape. Chances are you can cure your bad mood phase faster that way!
