The Common Barriers To Addiction Treatment
If you are eligible for treatment, don’t think that you will always receive it when required. People who are in the same state with a similar health insurance policy can come across differences in the treatment that is offered by the health care system.
For people with a chronic illness such as diabetes or cancer, it is easier to get the medical care if they have a health insurance policy. On the other hand, it may become difficult for a person an addicted person to find that treatment despite having a health insurance policy. This process is even more difficult for patients who are covered under the affordable care act.
Just one in ten people who are suffering from alcohol or drug addiction received any treatment while the numbers for other chronic illnesses is in the region of 70 to 80%. For addiction patients, the treatment is often below par with the treatments provided for other medical conditions. Drug and alcohol addicts are required to overcome the common areas for addiction treatment that have been identified in this article.

Health Insurance Does Not Guarantee Addiction Treatment
Medicaid is the largest provider of mental health and addiction treatment in the United States. However, not all plans offered by Medicaid cover addiction treatment. The problem lies in the fact that while the affordable care act stipulates that addiction services must be covered by insurance, the offered insurance plans are not governed by the affordable care act.
There are difficulties in accessing treatment even when some of the plans cover addiction treatment. Moreover, quite a few health care and treatment providers refuse to accept the affordable care act, further reducing the limited number of professionals who can provide the treatment.
Shortage of Accessible Treatment Centers And Providers
The number of people who require treatment for addiction exceeds by far the number of qualified clinicians and treatment programs in the US. Certain centers on clinicians are governed by specific rules that restrict the number of people they can help. This is another of the common barrier to addiction treatment because it limits the choice of the addict when selecting a treatment center.
Disparity between Addiction And Mental Health Treatment Facilities
The problem of addiction is often accompanied by underlying issues, most of which are mental health problems. However, most addiction treatment centers do not offer treatment for mental health. Likewise, many mental health clinics have no facilities for addiction treatments. This disparity confuses patients about the type of treatment they should seek from the clinics they choose. In most cases, addiction and the mental health issues have to be treated simultaneously.
The Quality of the Treatment
Some insurance companies do offer addiction treatment, but the coverage provided is limited. They cannot cover the entire duration of the treatment. Also, in many cases clinics are known to have stopped treating a patient because of the stipulations of the insurers about the time. This is similar to discharging a patient from a sick bed despite the understanding that he or she may collapse immediately after the discharge.

By investing in prevention, treatment, and recovery, empowering law enforcement, and stopping the overprescribing of painkillers, we can turn the tide.” –— Rob Portman [/su_quote]
Apart from the common barriers to addiction treatment, patients also have to overcome their problem of remaining in denial. Therefore, such people should be ready to face these barriers.
