Four Tips For Protecting Your Skin And Keeping It Healthy This Summer
Summertime means trips to the beach, nice picnics in the park, and enjoyable hikes. Our summer clothes can finally see the light of the day! Because of the warm weather, we all like to dress up in tank tops and shorts and enjoy the sun. However, while that’s not a bad idea in itself, you could be headed for some serious trouble with your skin if you don’t treat it properly. The increased heat from summer, coupled with the added exposure to the sun, can be pretty harmful to you, and you need to do everything you can in order to ensure that your skin stays safe from overexposure.
It’s normal to get carried away while you’re having fun under the sun but it’s necessary to be mindful of your health, too. Here are a few tips that will get you through the summer without causing too much damage on your skin:
Cleanse Your Skin At Least Two Times Every Day
Your skin is going to produce more oil in the heat, and you’ll likely have a build up on your face in the morning and at the end of the day, making your face look too shiny. Furthermore, if you don’t properly clean your face, it may lead to oil build-up and eventually pimples. You can take care of this by cleansing your face twice a day to remove excess oil and all the dust and dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Depending on your preference, you can use a foam or gel-based product. Usually, the latter is great for oily skin while people with combination skin (oily and dry) would bode well with the former.
Use A Moisturizer At Night
Since you’ll be stripping your skin of natural oil after cleansing, you’re going to need to moisturize it properly afterwards and with the right product since every person has a different skin type. In addition to drinking lots of water throughout the day, make sure to use moisturizing body lotion and face cream at night to bring up your skin’s hydration level. While any product will do you good, aloe water-based moisturizers will have the added effect of extra hydration that your skin needs after a day outside the sun.
Exfoliate Yours Skin From Time to Time
This should be something that you should be doing no matter what season, but this practice is especially important during the hottest months of the year. Because of the oil and dead skin cell build-up, your pores will be clogged and your complexion will start to look dull. In order to address these skin concerns, exfoliation is the best solution for you. By getting rid of the dead skin cells, you’ll have fresher and more radiant skin that will not only be healthy but will look great as well. One thing you can add to this is to use a glycolic acid pad for exfoliating as it’ll bring about amazing effects. These are gentle to the point where even daily usage won’t be bad for your skin, although you should consult a professional if you have sensitive skin.
Use A Light Moisturizer With SPF During The Day
Using something heavy like you would during winter time will only make your skin look oilier than it usually is because products that are meant to be used during winter time have more moisturizing properties in them. You wouldn’t want to be teased, would you? So try and look for a lightweight moisturizer suited to your skin type and one that also has a good amount of SPF in the formulation. It can absorb quickly into your skin so that you have a natural look throughout your day while keeping yourself safe from any UVA rays exposure and skin damage.
Taking care of your skin will become second nature to you once you’ve got the hang of it. It may seem tedious at first, but think of the benefits! Healthy, protected skin, fewer wrinkles, a rosy glow — we all want to achieve these and more for our skin goals so make the effort! Summers can be a difficult time for your skin, but if you make sure you’re keeping it moisturized on a regular basis, among other things, you’ll have perfect skin throughout the season that will be the envy of others.
