These Five ‘Thought-To-Be Harmless’ Habits, Are Actually Causing More Harm Than You Think
There are certain harmful habits which you might have incorporated into your lifestyle that are gradually harming you. Smoking cigarettes frequently, consuming alcohol, and roaming around under the sun for a long time usually impact our skin and lead us to premature aging. You may not realize this now, but eventually, you are going to realize what harm your habits have inflicted on you. You might have often thought of quitting such habits, but somehow, you have been unable to do so and gone back to the same old routine. However, there are some apparently ‘harmless’ habits that are slowly but surely having an impact on your skin and your overall health. Here are five of those:
Sleeping late into the night is something that seems harmless but has a huge negative impact on you. It’s not uncommon when you push your daily chores late into the evening and thus pushing your bedtime back for a couple of hours. Sometimes, you catch a late night show and before you even realize it, the clock already reads 3 in the morning. Little sleep is too bad for your mind and body. To stay in the pink of your health and maintain a safe distance from anxiety and stress, sufficient hours of quality sleep is mandatory. If you fail to follow this, it can lead to diabetes and high blood pressure, and you end up looking tired and quite old. You wouldn’t want that, would you? Make sure that you prioritize your sleep and get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep per day.
Eating Too Many Sweets
No one wants to watch their waistline getting bigger by the day. A diet highly laden with sugar can have deteriorating effects on your body and health. In addition to that, sweets can affect your skin, too, making it look dull and wrinkled. Excess glucose leads to glycation, in which the sugar present in your blood gets attached to proteins and eventually form new molecules that have proven to be quite harmful. With more consumption of sugar, there is a risk of more AGEs (Advanced Glycation End products) being developed. Proteins, such as elastin and collagen, are damaged. This ultimately results in sagging and wrinkling of the skin. It’s tough to eliminate sugar completely from your diet. However, if you consume sugar less than 10% of the total calories, you would be benefiting to a great extent.
Stress is deadly. If you tend to pick up stress every day from your workplace issues or problems you have with your kids, you automatically push yourself towards aging. Stress accentuates the concentration of norepinephrine and cortisol in your blood, thus decreasing your levels of immunity and increasing your blood pressure to an alarming level. If you can’t find ways to reduce your stress and anxiety, then your healing gets eventually delayed and the areas of your brain that are generally involved with memory, learning, and mood are shrunk considerably, and looking old follows. Stress may refuse to go away completely, but it entirely depends on you how you manage tough situations in life. Deep breathing and relaxation are certainly two effective ways to relieve yourself stress and anxiety.
Irregular Consumption Of Fruits And Vegetables
Fruits and veggies that are rich in antioxidants help you to hold on to your age. Antioxidants are those powerful compounds which help in fighting free radicals that have a devastating effect on your skin and body and can damage cells to make you look aged. However, antioxidants are active for a definite period and your body needs to be replenished with them from time to time. Eating a plate full of salad once a week would not suffice at all. You need an intake of antioxidants on a daily basis. Don’t think of skipping fruits and veggies from your diet. If possible, continue their intake every 4 hours in a day. That would be sufficient, as revealed by experts.
Not Exercising Regularly
Workouts should be a must. Most of us don’t derive all the benefits that regular exercising has to offer. We tend to link physical activity with weight loss and refrain from a strict workout regimen. Often, we stick to a routine for two months and then everything falls off the hook as we take a break from exercising for two to three months. More than benefits, we invite some major health complications. If you are active, you can definitely fight against brain fog, type II diabetes, and several kinds of chronic disorders that can crop up anytime. Pick any activity that you enjoy – be it cycling, swimming, running, walking, or anything else — but don’t just choose a sedentary lifestyle.
Drop these deadly habits for good and you will soon be able to turn back the clock.
