Why and How Men Should Take Care Of Their Skin As They Age
Whenever we talk about beauty and skincare, we generally refer to females. Men, however, rarely talk about their skin problems to other people, and they end up neglecting it. Men, there’s nothing wrong about addressing skin concerns because who knows, that seemingly harmless spot on your face may turn out to be something serious like skin cancer. In this age, people are and should be more open-minded when men show interest in using beauty products. There’s definitely nothing wrong about going to a salon to have their skin and hair taken care of. It is important to remember that the skin is part of our body, and we should do what we can to keep it healthy. With age, our skin will start to sag, wrinkles will start appearing, and veins will pop out. But if we eat right, have a healthy lifestyle, and maintain a few golden rules, our skin will be our least of problems as we age.
Here are some skin-related problems that men have and how to solve them:
Acne From Oily Skin
Men usually have oily skin — in fact, their skin is oilier than women’s skin. As we all know, this skin type means that you are more susceptible to frequent acne breakouts. To prevent the problem of acne, men should use a face wash to get rid of dirt and dead skin cells that have accumulated on the top layer of the skin. Choosing the right kind of face wash for their skin is tricky. For oily skin, it is best to use a gel-based face wash instead of a cream-based one.
Dark Patches From Regular Shaving
Most men shave regularly, and this affects their skin and leaves behind dark patches. With age, these patches become more prominent and can make the skin look severely patchy and ugly. To take care of this area of your face, you need to use more than just an aftershave lotion. What you need is a face gel or organic oils to apply on your face after shaving. This will protect the skin from the harmful effects of shaving daily and help you avoid getting dark patches.
Dark Circles From Stress
Men get stressed out more often, and the worst part is, unlike women, they cannot de-stress as effectively as women do. Aside from loss of appetite, insomnia, and general fatigue, aging can also be another effect of too much stress, and all these can lead to your dark under-eye circles. Using an under-eye cream is crucial in these cases. But remember that the skin under the eye is very delicate so avoid tugging or intensely rubbing the skin. It is important to use a cream that is meant only for your under eye area.
Easy to Tan
Men get a tan four times more easily than women. Many men spend hours out in the sun, and for them, using a sunscreen lotion with a good SPF is compulsory. Men must remember that these are not cosmetic products that would make them looks fairer or better. A sunscreen is more like a protective lotion that you can use so that the sun’s harmful rays can do minimum harm to the skin. It is imperative to remember that too much exposure to the sun and its harmful UVA and UVB rays can lead to skin cancer.
Lack Of Hydration
Men, especially those on the other side of 40, should keep their skin hydrated at all times. This can be done by through internal or external (or both) hydration. Drinking lots of liquids will help keep your entire body hydrated, including the skin which means lesser chance of wrinkles. You can also use hydrating sheet masks which help hydrate and lock in moisture. The best thing about these is that you can put it on at night and take it off in the morning. There is nothing wrong about putting on a face mask, knowing how much benefits your skin is getting from that alone.
There is no question that men ought to pay more attention to their skin. Just because society doesn’t consider it “masculine” enough doesn’t mean you should neglect and leave your skin alone. A few changes in your lifestyle routine like including raw fruits and vegetables in your daily diet, adopting a daily beauty regimen for your skin, taking supplements, and avoiding smoking and drinking are just a few things that will help you retain your skin’s glow and elasticity. Even injections and fillers can come to your help, too. Hollywood stars often go for cosmetic surgery to correct age-related problems on the skin, and you can do the same if you have the money to spend. Whatever you do, never feel ashamed for wanting to take care of your skin.
